Actress Hilary Swank is no stranger to getting fit for her roles. After all, she played a boxer named Maggie Fitzgerald in the critically acclaimed movie Million Dollar Baby. A movie that came out over a decade ago. Hilary, now in her mid-40’s, could be forgiven for being lax on working out. Although, with her recent Instagram post, it seems working out is still something she enjoys.

As you can see, the emphasis on the kettlebell is keeping it fixed at her core. Similar to a carry, the benefit of keeping the kettlebell stationary is to force the muscles to work harder than just supporting body weight. Of course, the legs are where the burn is felt most. While one leg is in motion and fully extended to the side, the other is left to support her weight and the kettlebell.

This doesn’t mean the legs are the only part of the body to benefit. Simply holding the kettlebell in place is helping to increase grip strength. It’s hard to tell the weight of this competition kettlebell since they are typically uniform in size and shape. Regardless, this exercise is a clever way to mix stretching and building strength in the legs.

Kettlebell Goblet Squat and Deadlift Combo

If you thought Hilary was one-and-done with kettlebells, you’re mistaken. An even more recent Instagram post shows her using a traditional kettlebell. This time, she performs several sets of goblet squats to deadlifts. Obviously, it’s a little more intense than her previous leg exercise video.

Gotta love her attitude! Cracking smiles and joking while exercising. Perhaps this is just the beginning of various Hilary Swank kettlebell videos to come. We’ll be closely monitoring her Instagram for any new ones that pop up. I have to wonder if these workouts are due to training for an upcoming role. Whatever the reason, more celebrities are turning to kettlebells for toning their bodies.
